The Top Diss Songs Of 2015

As fast as 2015 came, it disappeared, but not without giving us a slew of memorable diss songs.

Social media beefing was at an all time high in 2015, but there was a handful of emcee’s that knew when it was time to hit the studio and handle their business.

I break down my personal choices below, and I’m sure some of you won’t agree. I based my choices off direct “shots,” song structure, choice of beat, and much more. Now, I know there were a few indirect disses on tracks this year, but I wanted to focus on the direct disses. Love it or hate it, sound off in the comments and let me know how you feel.

Who do you think had the best diss record in 2015?

Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire Reminisces

Mike Trampe: It’s been about a year and a half since you said “My stupid ass sold his soul/and didn’t even get the fame.”, what has changed for you personally and musically since those lines?

MME: I centered myself and reconnected with my music, which is the most important thing to me.

Mike Trampe: So with that said, how would you describe your music that you are making RIGHT NOW?

Sean Price Took Over My Job For A Day & It Was Amazing!

Back in late October 2012, I got the word that Sean Price would be taking over my job for the day. I was told he would be taking over our (HipHopDX) Twitter account for an entire day, and I was to oversee the operation.

Now, what would you do if someone came into your job today and told you Sean Price was filling in for you? Personally, I was excited, but also scared to death [Laughs]. This was the same guy who had just recently reported during Hurricane Sandy with swimming goggles on [Laughs].

I knew we were in for something good, and I was hype for November 1 (2012) to arrive.

Sean Prices’ Top 12 Most Hilarious Moments (RIP)

“Duck Down are some of the nicest and most genuine people in the business and I feel for them right now.”Mike Trampe

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing the Duck Down Records staff for many years, and was a fan of the music before the personal relationships. I’ve played fantasy football with them for years, and interacted with them on a monthly basis while I was at HipHopDX (07-15).

Hip Hop took a shot today and I’m not sure the wound will ever heal. In my opinion, Sean Price was an incredible guy, a unique personality, an amazing emcee and a hip-hop legend.

Rest in Peace Sean, we’ll miss you P.

Philly Is The Real Loser In The Meek Mill & Drake Beef

Before you cuss me out based off of the title, please hear me out. I am a life-long Philly resident, sports fan & Hip-Hop fan, I also have worked in the music industry professionally for 10+ years.

As most people in Philly know, we have some of the most passionate fans in the country. That goes for sports, music, food and culture. We are a hard-nosed, blue-collar city that takes pride in everything we do Philly related.

Suicide, Mental Illness & Hip-Hop

For a person that has struggled with Depression and Anxiety most of my life, I found it very important to write this article. My grandmother (RIP) struggled with severe depression most of her life, and I do believe it is hereditary.

Now, I don’t think my Depression and Anxiety is as bad as some people, but it is something I deal with on a daily basis. My personal issues come more on the Anxiety side; worrying, over-thinking and stressing out easy. People always ask me what it feels like to have anxiety, but it’s not something that can be explained really. If you experience it on a daily basis, you know the feeling and how awkward it can make certain situations.

To be honest, I have never thought about killing myself.  I have never thought about actually doing it or have I ever attempted it. I am not here to say that someone who has attempted or committed suicide is any less of a person than me, or anyone for that matter. People deal with trials and tribulations differently and you really never know what is going on in someone’s head. It’s scary.  Continue reading

Horseshoe Gang Says “Any Rapper Who Pretends To Be A Dope Writer Is Lame”

Exclusive: Horseshoe Gang addresses ghost writers in Hip Hop, who they would add to the group, collaborating with Eminem and who would win in a battle between them and Slaughterhouse.

The discussion on the net the last few days has been about the Meek Mill vs Drake feud, and if Drake uses “Ghostwriters.” The majority of the industry utilizes co-writers and depend on the belief that “Team work makes the dream work,” so what’s the big deal? Well, for hard-working lyricists and emcees, it can rub them the wrong way if you don’t write your own bars.

I had the pleasure to sit down and talk to Long Beach natives, Horseshoe Gang about this topic, plus about their new EP Knocking On Raps Door, which drops tomorrow. Not familiar? Well, do yourself a favor and check these guys out! Incredible lyricists, artists and cool guys overall.

I told you years ago about K-Dot a.k.a. Kendrick Lamar when I had the pleasure to work with him and TDE and you know the rest. I was an avid supporter of Mr. Probz and told you about him for the last 6 years, now he has one of the biggest remixed records of the last year, “Waves.” I will say this one time, don’t sleep on Horseshoe Gang and remember I told you first, these guys will blow up 🙂

The Top 7 MC Sway & King Tech Songs

Some of you may not know this, but Sway and King Tech of the Wake Up Show used to make music together. And they were DOPE!

Yes, this is the same Sway from Shade 45 and MTV. The man who Interviewed President Obama and was told by Kanye West that he “didn’t have the answers.” The same King Tech that helped break some of the biggest artists EVER! I respected these guys tremendously, and that was before I was blessed with the opportunity to work with them.

BUT….I’m not gonna front, I wasn’t too familiar with their music in the past, but after doing my research, I was blown away.

Over the years, but especially lately, I have been carefully watching how they interact with artists and it’s clear they genuinely care for them and the future of Hip Hop. After visiting Shade 45 for Sway In The Morning with South Philly emcee’s Blessa + Nico The Beast, it all made sense. Sway and King Tech are artists at heart, and want to extend the love and passion for Hip Hop that they have had their whole lives. They are a rare gem in a game and industry that is dark as coal.

So with that said, take a listen to 7 of their cuts that I personally dig. Peace!

*Not that these guys need validation from Mike Trampe, but I wanted to big em’ up anyway!
